team development:

New Team Start-Up

Changes in leadership or organizational structure often require teams to be “re-calibrated.”  Activities which assist the manager and team move quickly in a positive direction include:

  • Creating a mission, vision and strategic plan

  • Defining expectations, both from the manager and the team

  • Clarifying roles and responsibilities

  • Developing an understanding of the unique strengths and challenges that each individual brings to the team

New Manager Assimilation Process (NMAP)

  • The NMAP is specifically designed for a manager who has taken leadership of a new team.  With the support of a trained facilitator, the manager and the team explore expectations, hopes, business challenges, questions, concerns and other topics which will affect how quickly the manager is accepted and how quickly the team can move forward in a positive direction.

  • During the NMAP, operating agreements are developed which address how the manager and team members wish to operate as a team, including communication plans, accountability, performance expectations, etc.

  Team Building

  • It is a fact that high performing teams do not happen by accident – they require an investment of time and energy.  Areas that often need to be addressed for team building include common goals, clear roles and responsibilities, communication strategies, and conflict resolution.

  • One of the first steps in team development is simply getting to know each other, which helps create appreciation for the unique value that individuals bring to a team.  Team members need to discover not only how they are unique, but also what they have in common, which helps them move from being a group (individuals working independently) to a team (individuals with common goals).  Another key step is to get the team members working on activities which require communication, planning and decision-making.

  • Waters Learning and Development creates customized team building activities which address the specific concerns and learning needs of each client.  Team building activities may include strategic brainstorming, paper and pencil “survival” activities, hands-on problem solving and communication activities, outdoor and indoor environments.
